Saturday night

There is no perpetual motion machine, but if it the secret is ever discovered, I believe it will be powered by sexual energy. It's the excitation source that never stops.

Saturday nights in my small Florida town, are like Saturday nights everywhere. Young - or in Florida's case, old - people are out and about, looking for the one. Whether it's the one for one night or one lifetime is not clear, but mostly the need is immediate. The smell of elevated hormone levels is eye-watering, everyone's heightened level of awareness of everyone else eye-popping.

It's always been this way, but now I'm an observer of the game, at least when I'm out working. The twenty-somethings like this place, Horse Feathers. It's an okay restuarant by day, with a good wine list, but on the weekends, it turns into a zoo. Lurking around outside waiting for my customers, one thing strikes me as different from when I was twenty-odd. Thesedays the girls dress up; sky-high heels, skirts, expensive blouses, hot dresses, make-up, hair, nails. They're walking Vogues. But the guys are slobs. Jeans, sneakers and untucked shirts, trucker hats - the contrast is jarring.

It makes me wonder if men even think about trying any more. Maybe they don't need to.

Oh, how things have changed.

Interesting observation. Being ancient myself, I hardly ever see twenty-odds; not to mention that where I live now there are no young people with money to spend on clubbing.

i think for the most part you're right, but the guys aren't incapable of getting dressed up. A few months ago i had a twenty-something friend escort me to an awards ceremony and i almost passed out when he showed up in a suit. I'd only ever seen him in khaki shorts and band tshirts. He did look like he was being strangled by the tie though for most of the night.

An imbalance, yes!

Women in general spend so much more time (and money) "packaging" themselves for love/sex than do men.

Makes me wonder: if the girls at Feathers all got together one day and conspired to "dress down" on a Saturday night, would the guys care that much?

Or would they still try, as usual, to take the girls home?

And how much are the girls dressing up to hunt the guys vs. how much are they dressing up for the other girls?

No young people with money, Don? Things really are bad.

One reason we don't see the twentyishes is that they don't go out until LATE! If not driving, I'd be in bed when they're starting, coz bed is so good.

(I keep forgetting that I, too, like you, thought it cool to be out as late as poss at that age.)

Ha ha, Lakota. Was the lad trying to make an impression? And did he? Neckties can either be an abomination or great fun, depending upon the circumstance.

Well let's see Annie. My thinking is that the girls are way too competitive with each other to agree to something like that...and follow through ie: there'd be cheats.

No, the boys wouldn't care.

Yes, they'd still try to take them home.

The ratio is 34% they dress for the blokes, 36% for the sheilas and 97% for themselves.(Arrived at by strict methodology.)(Yes, I know it doesn't add up. They're women.)
